“2025 Nominations for “Hamaguchi Award” have started and “Hamaguchi Essay Contest 2025 for High School Students”

Hamaguchi Award
1 “Hamaguchi Award” is an international award for individuals and/or organizations that have made significant pragmatic contributions to the enhancement of coastal resilience against tsunami, storm surge and other coastal disasters. The award was established by the International Promotion Committee for Tsunami/Costal Disaster Resilience Technology due to the designation of November 5th as “World Tsunami Awareness Day”. November 5th was set as Tsunami Prevention Day in Japan before the UNGA designation.
Application period is until May 30th, 2025.

2 “Hamaguchi Essay Contest” is now open for application. This is an initiative to further educate and disseminate coastal disaster prevention technologies, for young people who is expected to lead the next generation.
Application period is until August 14th, 2025.

He saved villagers from a tsunami in 1854, and later dedicated himself to building breakwaters to protect and have minimized the damage caused by the tsunami later on.
